Janiuay – A Future Economic Production Area of Black Pepper in the Philippines

With great enthusiasm, hope and aspirations, I am dedicating my retirement time in the transformation of the agricultural landscape of my beloved municipality of Janiuay. I truly and fervently believe that in the next five (5) years, Janiuay will be the economic production hub of the black pepper in the country with the innovative technologies adopted by farmers. With local government support and small scale farmer empowerment, I foresee that about 100 to 500 hectares will be planted with black pepper. Since, the production of black pepper is coupled with the kapok tree, this means that the rolling and unproductive areas of Janiuay is also reforested, enhancing the biodiversity and protection of the environment.

The 8P’S AGRI Farm in Manacabac, Janiuay is showcasing the production technologies on black pepper using the kapok as a standard support tree. Below is the 2016 production area of rice wet season cropping with black pepper as a background.
